“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIVUK)

This season has been busy. I’ve had countless hours researching, learning, building, praying, thinking and being a mother yet haven’t taken enough time for myself. I don’t know when I turned onto autopilot mode. I don’t know when the “off” switch and “rest” were buried under the piles of my lists. It happened though.
One day, the Lord told me to take time and rest. Actually, I had a vision: Jesus stood in front of me. He opened His heart and I thought I was going on an adventure with Him. I call the going deeper into the things of the Lord adventures because so much revelation happens. I’m always in awe when I go deeper with Him. So here I thought I was about to get some grand revelation. I took Jesus’ hand and stepped into His heart in the vision. I saw myself lie down and He gently commanded, “rest”. I felt so much at peace that I actually took a nap and I’m not a napper.
I had no idea that God was going to be asking me to rest or that the autopilot mode would be highlighted as a problem. It wasn’t as if I was forsaking the secret place because building with God takes communing with God hence prayers for guidance and wisdom. But, He’s been asking me to rest and I’ve been struggling to rest. I’ve worked myself up to always be “doing” that rest became a past tense.
Clearly, I needed wisdom on rest and balance. So today, when I felt to rest, yet again I grew antsy. I keep going back to that space that I should be doing something. But, I’ve also began to see from Gods perspective again. In rest, I’m getting downloads on my business. In rest I’m slowing down enough to not miss Him when He shows up just so I can feel and soak in His love.
“What do workers gain from their toil?”
Ecclesiastes 3:9 NIVUK
Staying busy with our work is wonderful but let’s not forget to rest. Sometimes it’s okay to step back and watch a movie, treat yourself, or take a drive! I’m mom 24/7 and don’t need or ask for a break from my most important role. But can I tell you? I want to be more effective in every role or opportunity God gives me. Functional that’s on autopilot isn’t effective in a productive way because eventually you’ll be on empty. Empty isn’t always good if you’re depleted.
What do you need rest from? Are you stepping back and taking a breather? Remember, be functional effective and get rid of your autopilot button that depletes you.
Love & Blessings! – Eunice.
