Today I woke up with a mission. I had goals I needed to meet and I set out after praying for favor and success in my endeavors.
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)
The first stop was successful as it lead me to a region I’ve been praying for in Atlanta but as I was coming back home to start my next assignment I didn’t feel grace for what I’d planned and set out to do. I prayed, decreed and called forth the promises of God but there was a void even though I felt Gods presence. I stopped, parked outside a grocery store; under a tree and asked the Lord what He wanted. It was then that I felt this day was for me to relax and just enjoy myself. God had not approved how I’d planned to spend this day and in my quest to meet my daily and weekly goals which He has blessed in times past – exceedingly abundantly above what I’d set for myself and asked from Him, today He’d changed the script.
How did I miss it?
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:”
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (ESV)
Looking back at how my morning started, I should have caught the pause as I got ready and had my breakfast. I should have caught His silence as I planned to go out into places I normally go to and pray.
“Lord forgive me for not catching the shift in Your wind. Help me be more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit so my steps are continuously ordered by You.”
As I stepped back and let go of the plans and the goals, I decided to be content in what I’d already achieved this week and leave the rest to God. I immediately felt Gods love and approval and embraced it, resting in Him and listening to what He desires to share.
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Proverbs 16:3 (ESV)
Isn’t it funny though?
When we plan and move on things are we catching His wind and letting it move us where He needs us to be or are we trying to steward the wind of the Spirit our way? Are we quick to pause when He stops even though we have goals to meet?
Are we resting in Jesus or striving in our flesh? What or who has your gaze?
Think about it! Better yet, pray about it!
